Learn more about Claire
Claire Hutchinson is a dancer, educator, and arts administrator who considers ballet to be her first love. Dance has been an inextricable part of Claire’s life since she began taking ballet classes at age two. As a child, she had a natural joy and talent for dance, so much so that she left home at age thirteen to train at the School of American Ballet (SAB) in New York City’s Lincoln Center. There, she studied the Balanchine technique which emphasizes speed, precision, and intense musicality. During her training, she served as a teaching assistant for SAB’s youth classes, participated in various choreographic workshops, learned and performed numerous ballets by George Balanchine, and performed Christopher Wheeldon’s Scènes de Ballet with the New York City Ballet. She also spent influential summers at the Boston Ballet Summer Intensive Program.
Claire later attended Duke University and had the opportunity to participate in the university’s 3-year collaboration with American Ballet Theater. She is currently the Education Coordinator at MASS MoCA where she leads educational programming and works to increase access to multimedia arts education in the Berkshires. Claire understands ballet to be a precious tool for living an intentional and beautiful life, and she is excited to share her love and expertise with the community.
